With the Mifi I'm getting 3 public IP's, none of which are being seen with an open port. Youtube video showing my methods.
Alright, thank you for verifying that. Why then, is there even a port forwarding option in the device? Wireless Forum. My issue is simply this. In the video I use Sam Broadcaster which uses port Like Comment Follow Share. You can't. Mobile data doesn't really work that way. If you need port forwarding and such you'll need to get wired internet.
We commonly hear from customers the complaint that they are able to see their video recorder from a computer on the same router, but not from their phone or from a computer at another location. Here's a brief explanation of why this happens:. Every router these days has a built-in firewall which blocks traffic from the internet from accessing the internal local network behind the router. The firewall will not block local traffic on the network from accessing the DVR, so you will still be able to view your camera system as long as you are at home and on the same network as the DVR.
Unless you enable port forwarding in your router you will not be able to view your cameras from elsewhere or from your phone using its cellular data connection. Depending on the manufacturer of your surveillance video recorder, it will use specific ports for web login, data communication, and video streaming to serve up the camera feed.
All of our recorders have the following default ports configured when they ship:. It is only necessary if you want to be able to view the login webpage. Port - This is a TCP type video streaming port that is necessary for viewing video using any method, i. RTSP is an advanced feature that allows integration of camera streams coming to the DVR to be connected to another device, like a access control system or for embedding video on a website.
For our video recorders, at a minimum you must enable port forwarding rules for ports 80 and for remote viewing to work smoothly. One port rule for port 80and one rule for port If you have a residential internet service plan, chances are port 80 is being blocked by your ISP. In such an event, you will make a rule for port or something similar instead of port As long as you configure everything correctly in both the DVR and your router, everything should work fine.
The first thing you should do when configuring port forwarding is determine all of your network information. This means IP addresses, login credentials, port numbers needed for your DVR, all of which is essential information. We will go over what these pieces of information are, and the easiest ways to find them. This is your IP address on the Internet.
Verizon Jetpack® 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi® 6620L - Port Forwarding
All of the computers on your local network are behind this IP address. Ports that need to be port forwarded: check within the DVR's network settings to confirm the values for ports it uses. For our recorders, as explained above, the default ports are 80, and Here are the best and easiest ways to gather the necessary information for networking. The command line is a crucial tool for networking, but it can be very confusing if you have not used it before.
Within the command line you can type different commands to get information and tell the computer to do different things. We've simplified it for our guide; just follow these steps. Windows users: Click on the Start button aka Windows logo on the bottom left to bring up the program menu. In the field " Search programs and files " type CMD. After the command prompt windows opens, type ipconfig and press enter.
Mac users: Use the finder tool to search for Terminal on your computer. Click on the Terminal icon. After the command prompt windows opens, type ifconfig and press enter. Once the info has printed out, look for your default gateway. Most commonly it is Considering the slow roll-out of 5G, though, the MiFi still makes sense. In my testing, it had excellent cellular speeds — at least in the San Francisco Bay Area —, and decent battery life.
By the way, new customers might get some deals and pay less. On one side, it has a USB-C port for charging and tethering when connected to a computer. This port can also be used to charge another device or host a storage device — more on this below.
The hotpot is locked to Sprint, but it seems you can get it unlocked by contacting the carrier. On top, the hotspot has a 5-line 2. The screen is virtually the same as that of the MiFi L, but the button is better.
You can use it to toggle some settings including roaming, alerts, airplane mode, screen time out, etc. The actual connection speed varies, depending on the carrier and the signal strength. As a result, it can deliver up to Mbps on the 5GHz band and up to Mbps on the 2. Apart from changing the security information — including hiding the Wi-Fi and admin passwords from the touch screen —, there are many other things you can do. For example, you can reserve an IP for a connected client, create a port forwarding scheme, setting up VPN passthrough, and so on.
In all, despite the tiny physical size, the MiFi has more features and settings than many canned Wi-Fi systems, like the Nokia Beacon 1 or even the Google Wifi. But not all features are realistic. For example, supposedly, you can use the USB-C port to host a storage device to share files to connected clients. Yes, technically, you can use the MiFi to charge another device, like a phone. I tried it with my Pixel 3 XL and got about 4 percent of increased battery on the phone for each 5 percent reduction on the hotspot.
But different cellular networks might require different levels of energy consumption. In my testing, I was able to get some six and a half hours out of the MiFion a full charge, with three continually active connected clients. With lighter usage — just one device with intermittent online activities—, the hotspot now lasted about 11 hours. By the way, I noticed that when left idle, with no connected clients, hotpot loses about 1 percent of battery per hour. Using all 15 clients, however, chances are you will need to plug it in.
You can quickly charge it using the included power adapter which, in my testing, brought the device from empty to full in a couple of hours. In this case, you have the option to make it work as a tethered modem for that computer, in addition to working as a mobile hotspot. And finally, you can also charge it using any car phone charger, or a power bank. That was about the same as my experience with the Verizon version. Inseego told me that the hotspot could deliver up to 1Gbps of cellular speed.
But on average, I got between 45 Mbps and 55 Mbps, which is more than fast enough for any application. By the way, during my testing, the MiFi became slightly warm after a few minutes of operation and remained that way. I had a largely positive experience with the Sprint MiFi during more than a week of testing it, but not an amazing one.
Cellular Internet is always tricky since it depends on where you are, but Sprint gives you ten days of free return on the MiFi Try it out before committing to one. Found a typo? Please report by highlighting it and pressing Ctrl Enter Thank you! Thank you for your response. How does the mifi speed tests compare to the Netgear usb modem? Your reviews seem to suggest that the is much faster? If not slower, I could plug it directly into a wifi for the house? But you can also try the USB modem.I have configured it to forward ports 80, and so that I can access my NVR security cameras while away from home.
I also have the firewall setting allowing external access to connected devices turned on.
Port Forwarding and ping not working
The result is the same whether I am trying to access the NVR address through the internet or through a direct wifi connection to the hotspot. I have followed the knowledge base instructions, but am at a loss as to why incoming internet connections are blocked.
I'm sorry you're having issues accessing your WiFi settings page from the internet CorcoranJ. There may be a comparability issues with your device and our MIFI device.
By default the MiFi broadcast is 2. My issue isn't with accessing the WIFI. I am able to connect to the WIFI with several devices. By any chance, have you ever been able to do this before?
Is there a particular reason why you want to access the settings page while not connected to wifi? I understand that the WIFI settings page may be protected against external access. That isn't really a concern for me, if that is true.
But, if it is supposed to be externally accessible, then it may be an additional symptom of the larger problem that I'm experiencing.Telenet Port Forwarding
That problem is that the router isn't allowing me to access my security camera NVR address whether from externally or otherwise. We completely understand the need to access your camera device. Since this experiencing this issue, have you tested the connection by disconnecting the camera from the connection and then re-connecting, once it is reconnected try accessing the camera? We are asking this to see if the issue is with the camera timing out with the connection to our router?I've set up Port Forwarding on my router, but it seems, that it doesn' work.
There's a server running on It's also not possible to ping the router from the internet. I tried to ping that IP from my own network and from another network, because a long time ago I had problems pinging my own internet ip address from the local network.
I thought, that this could be a firewall problem caused by the router, because some devices just don't allow ICMP, but I got the same result after disabling the firewall like this:. I was not getting a public IPv4 Address from my provider. I was in a carrier-grad-nat. I live in Austria, where you have to get a public address if you request it.
So I requested it, got it and everything is working fine. Router settings were OK all the time. SOHO Community. Log In Register. Port Forwarding and ping not working. Posts: 4.
